KEITH
Fathers Day 2017 we're watching our grandson as a normal weekend , celebrating Fathers day and Heather's birthday the following weekend . Holly came in the house to get her phone , checked her messages , one said we NEED to go to the hospital, she called the group home and was told this was not a normal Heather thing , something serious had happened . We race to the hospital ER (3:45 pm) , told to go to ICU waiting room, keep asking when we can see her but told repeatedly they are getting her ready for us (???). Finally a social worker asks if we had seen anyone yet(5:45pm) -NO-doctor comes out at 6:15 pm , Heather was unresponsive at the house ,ambulance called (approx 11:30 am ). She had coded 3-4 times in ER and several times in ICU , also at her house and ride to hospital.I asked if they were stabilizing her for the night ,told NO - HOUR BY HOUR -with a severe lack of oxygen ,she would be permanently brain damaged and be in a vegetative state for life hooked up to machines . We walked into ICU all were staring at us , letting me realize this was VERY BAD. This is the most horrific site any parent will ever see. More tubes and machines connected to her body ,and bruises all over. I now have to make the most difficult phone calls a parent will ever make to her brothers , cousins and aunts/uncles .As we were gathered around the bed holding Heather's lifeless body , the nurse disconnects the machines keeping her alive ( HELPLESS -PAIN -ANGER- SORROW = LOVE LOST )HEATHER DIED THAT NIGHT ABOUT 9:34 !!! MURDERED FOR A PHONE CALL TO ME ON FATHERS DAY!!!!
our story
HOLLY
It seems like a dream .. I brought this child into the world , hearing her cry for the first time. holding her ,comforted her as she cried , a new chapter in my life kissing her on her lips , holding her hands and thinking of the great things she will do in life, milestones and accomplishments , later learning she had some disabilities. as she grew a wonderful personality she had , helping her peers in the group homes she lived in as an adult. Family was very important to her , always buying small gifts for everyone , loving nieces and nephews. there are MANY things I miss about Heather being gone is just being together at home or shopping (we both loved shopping ). The day Heather was stripped of her LIFE was the day my WORLD STOPPED SPINNING . Life is at a stand still , how can someone have such disregard for a life. Father's day is now a reminder of her DEATH ... Everyday is a struggle. Life can not be summed up in a couple paragraphs, that day the WORLD LOST A BEAUTIFUL SOUL
We would like to thank our friends and family for being supportive during these very trying times . also to thank LESLIE SCHILDT -MONROE COUNTY ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY,going above all others to research and prosecute Heathers case . looking across the state to find case law (there is NOT ALOT of case law to go by) to guide her in this difficult trial . And lastly Andy Celli (attorney) and Ilann Maazel (attorney)for their legal guidance and support during the case and lawsuit against NYS for wrongful death. Very few cases are ever prosecuted and get convictions, hire the attorney that you feel can represent you correctly in these cases, they take along time and are a ROLLER COASTER RIDE OF EMOTIONS /SLOW. Even though it is difficult after a tragedy , DOCUMENT EVERY DETAIL YOU CAN GET , start a folder, keep notes of all calls and meetings, research things you don't know, many times our lawyer has asked for some info and was surprised I had it, it's not morbid ,your protecting your loved ones LEGACY
